A Brush with Danger

As is quite visible from my other posts, one will see that while I have a very adventurous mind, I don't usually come across a lot of adventures, being from the small town that I am. What I am going to relate today can't quite be considered an adventure yet this was really one of the closest I've been to actual danger.

I recently got very friendly with a girl. As happens in new friendships, parting with each other becomes a hard task. Over that, I tend to get obsessed in new friendships (which don't last long seeing that my mind rationalizes it by reminding me how repulsive that could be for the friend and how honestly creepy I get). Going out and spending time with each other was one of our primary getaways from the normal mundane life.

So, this one day, we were supposed to spend some time in the evening, but for some terrible miscommunication, I got myself and her included in an invitation to a common friend's house which, quite frankly, wasn't what I had in mind. I usually enjoy spending alone time with this new priority in my life. We spent quite a while at her place, (which was pleasant, really), before I suggested that we might want to head home. It was almost 8:30 in the evening then.

Here, I have to admit that it was my own selfishness that brought about the next train of events. You see, my thirst for some lone time with my friend was so intense that I decided to go for a ride instead of heading straight home. Next, I admit to my foolishness of taking her on a ride to one of the shadiest places in our town. I call it shady, by the literal term. It is a long wide stretch of road leading to the ghats and while the number of vehicles moving about are a little over few, the area gets devoid of people by the time we went there which was around 9 PM.

I should make it clear that the area is regarded as the military area although the main military areas are roads that branch away from this main road. This road is for general people. By evening, the entire stretch of road becomes extremely dark but for the few street lights that do not give out nearly enough light. The main source of lights here are the headlights from the numerous vehicles still moving.

So there we were, enjoying the wind in our faces, riding up the road when I feel off and I check my mirror to see a bike behind me. I do not think much about it then. We had a nice time through dark and empty side roads. occasionally talking about small unimportant things. It was during our way back home I got a curious feeling and checked my mirror again. I saw a bike but I hadn't been able to make a connection then. It was that curiously off feeling that caused me to slow my scooter and let that bike pass. And it did, without any noticeable delay. I wasn't particularly alarmed then. I went on, completely forgetting about the man on the bike wearing blue with a backpack. I thought of him as a student returning home after tutions.

Little did I know then that this was the man that could have essentially caused us grave harm that night.

There were two ways to go home half way along the road. We could take a side lane that was even less populated but had a police station a little towards the inside, or we could just continue down the road that would take us straight to the station from where we'd have to take a left. Since we'd come from this sparsely populated area, I thought we could get back home through the second way. I asked my friend which way she'd like to go and as we passed by the lane, she faintly opted for the lane but immediately changed her answer once we passed it. Being one to desperately please my friend, I made an actual U-turn which, in retrospect, was a singularly atrocious mistake on my part.

Because it was as we entered the lane that my bike got sidled by our friend on the bike that I had let pass. I say 'friend' in the most sarcastic manner because this man was quite far from being a friend, in any logical circumstance. He could potentially have been our rapist/murderer, and I say that not only because of the dense evil air that he gave out but also because he very tactfully blocked our way to the right which is where the police station was.

Part of the reason why I was scared stiff was this menacing air about him and the other part was the deplorable lack of any possible help around us. The area was as dark as it could get and as devoid of life. He kept asking something about our reason to be in a military area but he didn't need his mouth to say the amount of harm he was capable of doing to us. It was almost palpable. He was dangerously close to our scooter, close enough to push/hit us. My mind shut down completely and although my brave friend asked me to stop the scooter and have a defiant chat with him, I was sure that if I stopped my scooter, that would be it for us.

With every intention to collide against him, if it came down to that, I made a firm decision to accelerate my scooter to its full speed and in doing so, I somehow successfully swerved past his front wheel and towards the police station. I didn't stop once till I dropped off my friend at her place and then on my way back to my home, I felt the stare of every man and for some reason each of them seemed violent to me.

Once I got back safely home, still unsettled, deeply affected by the event, I got into my room, ignoring the family drama that arose because of my late coming. As I pulled out my phone to text my friend to see if she was alright (because I myself was more shaken than I had ever been), I saw that the motherfucker had broken the protective glass of my phone when he was repeatedly colliding against my scooter in an attempt to stop me. In my fear, I hadn't even felt the bike collide against my scooter.

One thing that really frustrates me about this incident is that, I never got to see his face...

An ambitious mind

I am an eighteen year old, going on nineteen.
So. the question here is, what exactly do girls my age want?
I, personally have no answer to that because I bet it's not to work like a maniac during the few years of your youth and then somehow tour the world with an impossible choice of career.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly how I have my life planned.
I should start off by mentioning that I am in no way boasting. I am just putting forward the abnormality of the situation- of my mind.
I do not wish for a "loving and caring" or "hot and sexy" boyfriend (although I do have a very loving and caring one, funny story actually, I'll talk about it later). I do not wish to roll around on my bed and spend my time doing nothing (although the force of habit is pretty strong, I happen to be the Goddess of procrastination) and I do NOT not care about my grades (although they aren't particularly star marked).
I happen to be a very ambitious lady.
I remember it was when I was in the ninth grade, I used to have to ask for pocket money from my mum everyday since I got into the ninth grade. I don't really know why, but somehow, the idea of asking for money, was... kinda unacceptable. I mean. till the eight grade, I had a private carpool take me to school and back and lunch was always prepared at home and I didn't really need to go anywhere. So I basically didn't need any pocket money. But then in the ninth grade, my parents decided I was too old to be oblivious of the world around. I had to know how to travel by public bus and I had to know how to manage money and everything. Hence came the situation I was struggling through.
I have a set of wonderful parents- but somehow, the idea of asking for money was too much. It was then that I had decided to do something about this since clearly, I'm not the kind who'd sit about doing nothing about a situation bugging me. No, I switched on my computer and started looking for whatever jobs available. That was in the ninth grade. I guess, I had the mental maturity to realize that with my qualification, I wasn't really going to get any jobs any soon. So I waited. I waited for four years that is till I completed my twelfth grade. During these four years, a wonderful thing had happened to me. I opened my eyes to the world outside my immediate neighborhood.
All I know is that, by the time I was eighteen, I had more than many aspirations. I wanted to visit Japan. I wanted to visit Switzerland. I wanted to visit France. I wanted to visit SO many places. But how could I? I am just an eighteen year old middle class girl. But dreams aren't really middle class, are they?
I found a job that suited me best. I found a job as a writer. Even though it wasn't the most interesting jobs of the world, I knew that that was something I was capable of and then I started working. I started from scratch. And here i am, earning quite a lot enough for my humble living and then some saving with my dream of starting my world tour pretty soon intact. I didn't ask for a guy in my life, but I got one nonetheless.
I go to college. i go to Japanese classes. I go to private tuition after which, I work. I have pretty decent set of parents. I have a wonderful guy as a partner. and I have a wonderful life.
Like hell I wasn't boasting.
I'm fudging proud of myself.
Good day to all of you.

An idea.

Hi guys,

Today, I went for a movie. "Chef". You must have all heard of this newly released movie. Well, it has Robert Downey Jr. How could I NOT watch? So, *SPOILER ALERT* this movie is all about how a guy succeeds while driving around in his licensed food truck after being fired from a restaurant for being gutsy.
Now, the Wandering mind that I have, I started wondering. See, that IS one way I could survive if I ran away from home. Sure, I don't know how to cook and sure even if I do learn cooking, I might not be able to produce the magic, But hey, I don't need publicity. ALL I want is to see EVERYTHING. I want to tour the entire world. Go every where. I want to see all the magic that the Earth has to offer. I want to be able to tell my kids and grand kids about the adventures I have had, about the different people I have been able to meet, about the hardships I had to go through. I want to have uncountable tales to tell them.
Of course the focus does not really lie on my kids and grand kids. It lies in the experiences I will be able to have.
I mean... how hard can survival be?
I am not particularly illiterate. The fact that I'm blogging must tell a lot about my education. Not considering the grammatical and spelling issues that is. But with the education I have, I might be able to earn enough for a days meals, right? All I need is sufficient brains and tactics. I mean, sure I might not be the most intelligent person or the biggest opportunist, but then this is survival we are talking about. "Desperate times call for desperate measure" eh?
I mean, it's not like I need a long time job or something. I won't need fame. I won't need a lot of money. I won't need nothing. All I'll need is my zeal to carry on in my path. It is a difficult one, but it will be my chosen path nonetheless.
UGH!!
If only I had the, excuse my language, balls to go through with my wish. I mean, there are just so many things that need deep consideration. I belong to a perfectly healthy family. I have everything that I can ever want. Except carrying out my twisted wish that is.
Damn, I would like to meet someone with a mind such as mine.

Wishing I could run away...

Hey everybody,

I have been having a thought at the back of my mind since a few days. This sounds extremely ridiculous but I was pretty serious about it... until few days back that is.
This thought occurred to be when I was going through my Facebook profile. There was this post that said, "Have you ever wished to just leave without a word to anyone? Like. Just leave." Thing is, I did think about it- several times actually. And I thought so much about it, that the idea started looking very real. very...doable.
I mean... what's the big deal? Sure you need a hell lot of courage to do something of the sort. It's funny actually. There was a time when I actually ha run away from home- for five minutes of course.
The story goes like this- I was quite young then. Maybe 14 or 15. And DAMN was I rebellious then! I used to oppose almost everything my elders told me. Yeah, I am pretty much the same now. Difference is, I have learnt to not voice my opposition. Now, I just quietly slide by and continue with what I actually wanna do. Anyway, at that time I was super- frustrated with my parents. They kept bugging me to study and I just didn't want to. I had nothing to do throughout the day, but I just didn't WANT to study. Even so, I had to. I had to sit holding my textbook under my nose through the day. This had been going on for a week then. That week, my parents were particularly strict- or so it seemed to the rebellious little me. That particular day was actually the nerve bursting day for me. I'd sat with my book through the day yet my parents HAD to find SOME or the other issue to yell at me for. So, I'd had it. I made up my mind and decided to leave. Just. Leave. I hadn't thought out anything. All I had in mind was how 'stupid' and 'heartless' my parents were. (yes, I remember using the exact same words while talking to my sister about it). So, I got off my bed and quietly walked past my parents' room and to the door. I opened it without making my much noise, opened the front gate and broke into a run. I ran straight, away from my house, without knowing where I was headed. I kept running until I reached the main road. There I turned right and had started running again. I was wearing a t-shirt and a skirt. I saw the glimpse of the familiar faces of my locality looking at me. Only now, they weren't just familiar faces anymore. These were the faces of people who could just pick me up and do whatever they wished with me. These were people who weren't my parents and thus didn't give much of a damn about me. These were the people who wouldn't mind taking advantage of me. These were people I didn't know jack about. The fear had slowly started to creep in. I made another right turn at the first lane that came into view. I hadn't stopped running. My mind was racing my legs. Suddenly I was very aware of my clothing. I was very aware of everyone that was looking at me. I was very aware of my indecisive mind. I was very aware of the foolish act that I was doing. As it hit me, I stopped. What. In the name of GOD. was I doing? I stood quietly looking at the people passing by throwing strange looks at me. I was out of breath and I was scared witless. Then I started to panic. As I was about to break into a sob,I looked around and saw that I was standing next to the lane directly at the end of which was my home sweet home. I blinked the tears out of my eyes. There was a weak resistance working at the back of my mind. It was the resistance brought forward by my obstinate mind. I quietly started walking towards my home. I heart was beating hard. It could have been a result of all that meaningless running or it could be because of the reaction that I was going to meet with at home. I wanted to start crying. I felt nauseous. As I reached my house, I saw that the front gate was open- just like I had left it. The door was half ajar- like I had left it. I slowly got inside the gate and closed it behind me. Then I got in through the door and bolted it. I slowly walked to my bedroom were my sister was seated and found my mother standing there talking to her. As I entered, she turned around- "What were you doing?" she demanded. "Toilet" I mumbled sitting down on the bed and propped my book open. She stared at me for a minute without me acknowledging her and then left the room. My sister looked at me and said- "like hell you'd be running away". I looked at the watch. Just five ten minutes had passed since the moment I had run away.
So yes, now I know exactly how it feels to run away from home.
...and ridiculous as it may sound but... I think I am ready to face it again.
Good luck to me, eh?
